Mothman Chooses a Bathroom
Among the main reasons I keep to the woods
and believe me, it’s a long list, avoiding
negative situations and (in)human judgment
rates pretty high. I don’t need the pressure.
More than any other creature, I’ve seen
people prod for the sake of prodding.
Who are you? Why do you exist?
Where must you hide?
Anyone listening knows the truth.
I’m unwelcome in most public fortresses,
too big and unforgivable for metaphors
where strange labels lurk, looming and clumsy.
So I avoid enclosed spaces,
refuse the force and imposition
of false choices. Plain dichotomies
and weak fictions only block the light.
Look around! Your privacy sold cheap—
I’d rather live remote, thanks.
There’s simply nothing to decide about
seven feet of gorgeous dark wingspan.
