In Extremis

On the news, another face is put to a voice
that has long been silenced. As though it’s
any consolation, the hands of his time here
are turned back through a grainy footage
played in a moment of silence. In this country,
one must have a predilection for life the way
a cat does. And yet, that would still not be enough
to survive, for though we may have our lives
in enneads, curiosity is what kills us
on the first count.
