Pretend Play

i laugh when my thirteen-month-old
parades the bedroom with bikini under-
pants, bras around his neck.

on a reservation in long island, a mother’s boyfriend
punches a seventeen-month-old into cardiac arrest
so he won’t act like a girl. later, the man says
that was my baby. i loved him to death.
