No Man’s Land
Nature abhors borders. An earthquake under the Sea of Japan shakes skyscrapers three days later in downtown LA. The Earth shares one skin. Borders are the equivalent of prison tattoos, crude swastikas and crosses. Governments speak of the sanctity of borders. Meanwhile, the smoke from Canadian wildfires transforms daylight in Columbus, Ohio, into a suffocating amber haze. There are no foolproof or permanent borders between nations, only wire fences and checkpoints and armed patrols as if there were. Men have died by the millions defending what doesn’t exist.
