Give him a Nobel! And an Emmy, and an Oscar …
A poem inspired by the New York Times opinion piece by Frank Bruni, 8/19/25
There’s no end to the accolades we could bestow on him,
the trinkets we could
throw at him
the trumpets we could
blow for him.
There’s no limit to his need for
validation
veneration
feting
festooning
Keep him busy with festivities
that award him gleaming trophies and
he might not feel the need to strip
academia of its autonomy
immigrants of their humanity
the judiciary of its integrity
America of its democracy.
